RESCUE & TRANSPORT

RESCUE

Warriors 4 Wildlife Inc. runs a hotline for animal rescues and transport of sick, injured, orphaned or abandoned animals in need. W4W Inc. can receive up to 10,000 plus rescue calls per year.

Our dedicated team of Warriors are from multiple locations across greater Melbourne and are able to assist with rescues of wildlife in residential homes, businesses and in natural reserves and bushland. If our team are busy with rescues and are unable to attend Warriors 4 Wildlife will reach out to our vast network of shelters and other organisations for help to ensure the animal is rescued, giving them the best chance of survival.

It takes a large amount of volunteers to be able to support our Victorian Shelters and wildlife and we rely on the support of community to help with calling in orphaned and injured wildlife, working on the Rescue Phones, administration, wildlife rescue and transport.

Whether you have an hour a week or a month, your help can drastically help the wildlife community. Join our next Rescue and Transport Workshop to Learn more.

WILDLIFE ON OUR ROADS

Our wildlife often cross our roads or come to the roadside to feed putting them in danger of being hit by a car. If you see an injured animal or accidentally hit an animal while driving please call us immediately.

Never think the animal will be ok, it will most likely be injured or compromised and will need our help. Our trained rescuers will always be available to go out and search for and assess the animal.

Removing deceased wildlife off the side of the road will also help to save other wildlife like birds of prey from becoming hit by passing cars.

ASSESSMENT

Not all wildlife need rescuing. Some of the calls we receive are from concerned people who are worried about an animal. For example, fledglings learning to fly from the ground or echidnas in backyards. Always call us for advise if you are unsure or if wildlife looks ‘out of place’ we may send out a trained volunteer to help assess the situation. Please keep children and any pets away while you wait for one of our volunteers to appropriately assess the situation. Sometimes the animal is completely fine and will continue on its way. It is always best not to interfere with wildlife that are not ill or injured.

POUCH CHECKS

If you find a recently deceased animal on the side of the road please call W4W Inc. We will send our rescuers out to check their pouch for young. You will be surprised the amount of joeys that are left in the mothers pouch and it is extremely important to check their pouch as soon as possible so we can keep them warm and send them straight a vet or shelter for rehabilitation.

We do pouch checks for many Wildlife species including kangaroos, wallaby’s and possums. Please call our Rescue Phone Operators and we can provide more information.

Wildlife that has a spray painted mark on their bodies or colourful tape is to communicate with other rescuers that the pouch has already been checked.

Call and speak with one of volunteers.

Our team of Volunteers are always willing to help. If you have found an injured, sick or orphaned animal please call us as soon as possible on 1300 352 923.

Shelter Support

TRANSPORT

Warriors 4 Wildlife also offer a wildlife transport service for vets and shelters. This service can be requested through our rescue number.

FOR VETS

Vets can call us if they have an animal needing to go into care. Our trained transporters will arrive to collect wildlife from the vets and transport them to a shelter.

Veterinary practices can call W4W for assistance in finding a Shelter or Carer for wildlife as well.

FOR SHELTERS AND CARERS

Shelters are busy caring for wildlife, that’s what they do best! We want to save them time and money by offering them our services.

We do collect wildlife from vets to transport them to shelters. We also transport wildlife from shelters to carers or to other shelters for specialised care.
